Tywla J. Cummings named chair of the board of the Rochester Area Business Ethics Foundation

Tywla J. Cummings, Ph.D., senior associate dean and professor in the College of Imaging Arts and Sciences at Rochester Institute of Technology, has been named chair of the board of the Rochester Area Business Ethics Foundation.

She begins her two-year term on April 1, 2014, succeeding Richard Anderson, a financial planner with Northwestern Mutual Financial.

As chair, she’ll guide the overall effort and direction of the non-profit RABEF as it promotes high standards of business ethics in the Rochester community, honors for-profit companies and non-profit organizations that participate in its annual ETHIE Award competition, and offers college scholarships to students at St. John Fisher, R.I.T., Nazareth College, SUNY Brockport and other colleges. Cummings has been on the RABEF board of directors since December 2006 and has chaired and/or served on its Judging, Ethie Award Process, Governance, and Sponsorship/Fundraising committees.

“Twyla brings a combination of real-world corporate and academic experience and a dedication to high standards of business ethics to her new role as chair of RABEF,” says Alan Ziegler, RABEF’s founder. “She is a capable leader who, in addition to chairing several important RABEF committees, has valuable experience as the leader of other nonprofit boards including the YWCA. She brings practical insight to our processes.

“As we thank Richard Anderson for his dedication and service, I am pleased to welcome Twyla to this significant role at RABEF.”

Cummings is a native of Dayton, Ohio. Her education includes bachelor’s and master’s degrees, in chemistry and business and industrial management, respectively, from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, and a doctorate in business management from The Union Institute and University in Cincinnati. Her professional career in the printing includes a variety of research and management positions at Scitex Digital Printing in Dayton, Ohio. She joined the R.I.T. faculty in 1998.
