Course Curriculum & Details

Through the philosophy of Priority Thinking®, participants will learn how to achieve a uniquely powerful three-fold combination that increases performance, reduces risks and embeds ethical power into decision-making at every level of their organization.

Using a combination of traditional face-to-face teaching, case studies, and audience response polling devices that measure feedback instantly, Finding the Ethical Edge offers participants both a theoretical basis for ethics AND practical ways ethical decision-making benefits a company.

In addition to the classroom experience, participants receive an on-line “tool kit” that will help them build, measure and improve the ethical climate within their organization.

Variations of this course have been presented at MetLife, Veterans Administration, Grant Thornton, Mastercraft Boat Company, Bank of America and many other top tier organizations as well as premier colleges and graduate business programs at the US Coast Guard Academy, Duke University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and New York University.

Who Should Attend and Why

Business owners, organizational leaders and supervisors who want to learn how to increase their performance and create an ethical work environment through a foundation of sound priorities will benefit from the course.  In fact, in focus groups conducted by Priority Thinking®, a primary need identified by the business leaders was, by far, to help them build an ethical culture in their companies and organizations.

“Many business and organizational leaders are trying to ‘move the needle’ on their performance, yet Ethics is often thought of as soft stuff that is important but intangible,” says Peter DeMarco, leader of Priority Thinking®. “The reality is that business ethics affects the bottom line significantly in ways that leaders sometimes do not think about, particularly on how choices are made.”

DeMarco also emphasized that Finding the Ethical Edge takes the participant beyond the typical view of ethics on defense. The reality is that too often leaders feel a financial sting or loss when they choose to do the right thing, even though they know they are practicing good ethics. This course shows leaders that you can put ethics on offense for a positive impact on the top line and bottom line of your business or organization.

Finding the Ethical Edge is sponsored by the Rochester Area Business Ethics Foundation and taught by Priority Thinking®, a Pittsford-based consulting firm with local and national clients.
